Fair point. I used to invest in low PE stocks but have revised my strategy since 2Q last year to include quality growth stocks (to spice up my portfolio). I selected these growth plays - Q&M, Straco, Riverstone, Isoteam - and were rewarded well.
Q&M has a simple/asset light business model (to garner market share) and what I like about this group - healthcare business, strategic business expansion in China, potential listing of business segments. Recent acquisition, upscale dental group, in Singapore is EPS accretive and should lower forward EPS.
The impending listing of business segments should benefit its shareholders. Although I have taken some profits off the table, I will still maintain a decent position on Q&M (longer term perspective on healthcare investing).
Lotustpsll, congrats and thanks for sharing with the rest of us! It's people like you who share the outcome of your hard work that gives the rest of us courage to carry on. Once again, many thanks.
The IOT is a hot investing theme in US but there is not much opportunity to invest in such theme in SGX. I see Trek2000 as a quality small cap play in this area and this makes this stock really exciting.
I like SHC Capital too and from a risk reward standpoint, I think we should take a position. If RTO on Tongda Group succeeds we should expect further special dividends (from its cash balance) and the new injected business will be a play on China's healthcare sector!. Deadline for definitive agreement to be signed is by 29May. Downside is that if no deal is struck, it will be back to drawing board for SHC.
Hey Lotustpsll: Regarding Internet of Things, would you regard Serial System was a play on the IoT? It distributes components that go into making the techie gadgets that are at the heart of IoT. Its margins are not fantastic but on rising revenues, the profit growth can be sound. The dividends are also showing sustainability and strength.
Yes. IoT is a loose term and we have to be discerning in our stock picks. The important consideration is the application/sustainability of its business model. As an investor you would have to examine closely its business model vis a vis its competitive advantage (or lack of). You may wish to compare Serial System with Trek2000 and decide or to pick both.
